Heap

Short Film

Heap is a short film that I adapted from a short story of mine, about a woman who is forced to live a double life after discovering a “utopian” society in the building next door to her dilapidated apartment.

It is also very much a story about compost; compost as a symbol of hope for the future, as a metaphor for one’s ability to change, the decomposing of personal identity, and also just plain old nasty rotting food.

In addition to writing the screenplay, I designed the title for the film, drawing inspiration from the greasy drips and trails left by leaking compost bins on their way down to the street.

Heap was directed by Kyle Marchen and produced by Van Wickiam and Public Space Productions. It was created with support from the Canada Council for the Arts through the DRIFF Incubator Program.
